I am an installation artist whose primary materials are sound and video. Adapting to or constructing spaces forms part of the work as evidenced in In Slower Motion, Sunlight and Dirt, Barricade and other works.
I take the principle of musicality to inform my work – whether a painting, sculpture, installation or performance the underlying aesthetic rests on musical fundamentals. I use pace, rhythm, timbre and pitch in translation so that the work may be judged aesthetically as forms organised in time and space. The tools I use are medium-dependent, but a core technique is the development of computer software as a medium for 'composition' in the musical sense of the word. Software environments are workshops in which one simultaneously builds, tests, and transforms ideas. Each new work involves writing new 'instruments' as computer programmes.
Using technology allows me to programme aleatoric methods that renew the work during its presentation. I tend not to present the work again in the same form: these are not fixed media works in the ordinary sense.
